Winter Activities
Season Calendar for Winter Ensembles. Refer to the following codes:
V=Varsity Guard
WW=Winter Winds
IP=Indoor Percussion
Winterguard
This is an extension of the guard section in the marching band. The Winter Guard season runs from November through mid-April. Cape Fear has two Winter Guards - Cap Fear Gold (Varsity) and Cape Fear Blue (JV). Both compete in local competitions from February through March. Varsity has also competed in regional competitions during that time. Membership in Varsity and JV is open to any student enrolled in CFHS and MWMS. No experience is required for JV, but dance/guard experience is a plus. Questions? Email Mr. Jorgensen
Indoor Percussion
Thanks for your interest in the Indoor Percussion (IP) season! The IP season runs from November through mid-April. Membership is open to any band student enrolled in a Cumberland County HS, as well as eighth graders. Non-percussionists are also welcome to audition! IP includes a marching percussion ensemble (battery percussion, mallets, auxiliary percussion, etc.) that travels and competes in local and regional competitions.

Winter Winds
This is an extension of the winds section in the marching band. The Winter Winds season runs from November through mid-April. Cape Fear debuted our Winter Winds group in 2026. This group competes in local competitions from February through March. Membership in Winter Winds is open to any wind student enrolled in CFHS. Marching Band experience is required.
